The bell above the door chimed as JT walks into the store. JT is an overweight middle aged man. His thin brown hair was falling out, leaving him with a big bald spot on top of his head. His brown eyes were flat and lifeless as if the world had completely broken him. His clothes mismatched and making him look decidedly worse rather than better.

My name is Dave and I found out I'm a naturist.

I pushed the boat away and motored almost silently down about half the length of the lake to a nice weed bed, and started to work a small fly along the edges of the weeds.

The rain started less than two hours later, but I was ready for it, mostly. I pulled on the rain suit I'd taken along to fend off the ice cold drops. The cold began to seep through the light weight rain suit as the temperature dropped precipitously, easily down over a dozen degrees in the first twenty minutes. This storm had all the earmarks of one intending to stay for a while.

I had to find something to do when I got out of the military. Something that I loved, something that I wouldn't mind doing while I collected my military pension at age 40. Yeah, I know, retired at such a young age. But the military game is a young man's game and even with over seven thousand flying hours, youth still trumps experience in the flying game. As you get older your body just can't respond like it used to. As a result I just couldn't keep taking those high G maneuvers.

School has a pattern; first is the uncertainty of taking something new and deciding if you are going to drop the course before the deadline. Then the boredom sets in as you get the hang of what you think you are doing. Finally comes the abject terror that you've committed yourself to a course you hate/can't complete. We were all on the cusp of Stage Three.

You could say everyone in the house was a bit stressed about school; when you added in the hormones of the young and things got down right anxious. We dealt with this in a number of ways. We divided up kitchen duty, times for our study groups, and who needed rides to work. For that one day, that Thursday, I was pretty sure we had it all under control.

Our final game of the season was on the road against Montgomery, one of the top schools in the nation. We were underdogs but came ready for a fight. They started out the game scoring a touchdown on us and we couldn't seem to catch up. I started the third quarter. I got inside the twenty twice, but couldn't deliver and that left me feeling like crap.

We lost by fourteen in the end after a valiant but futile goal line stand in the final minute of the game. Morgan had the last series of downs and tossed one hell of a pass for forty yards, proving he was one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. Had the guy not been clobbered right after the catch it might have meant something. As it was we simply ran out of time. It was a long flight home.
